The man of your dreams has proposed and one of the first things you should do is... get healthy! Of course you need to call all your friends and family and announce your engagement on social media! Getting engaged is such a fabulous time and you will want to run out and by all the bridal magazines you can get your hands on.
You might ask why I am writing a blog post about getting healthy when there is so much to plan for your wedding day. Not to mention your wedding day is months away, you haven't even decided on a wedding date yet.
Before you run out to buy the bridal magazines, please go and get yourself a big drink of water. You are certainly going to be very busy in the coming months. Planning and preparing for your wedding day is usually very stressful and you need to be in your best shape (mentally and physically) for your wedding day. I don't just mean losing weight but I mean having clear skin, more energy to run between appointments, sleeping better and getting sick less. No one wants to wake up the week of their wedding with pimples or even worse. ... A cold sore!
These are all avoidable if you start preparing straight away. Follow my recommendations below to start looking and feeling your best on your big day.
The first 3 steps you need to be a radiant and glowing Bride are:
1. DRINK WATER -
We all know we need to drink water but most people are chronically dehydrated. 75% of people are walking around dehydrated and this can lead to headaches, migraines, fatigue, overeating and cravings (just to mention a few of the side effects of dehydration). With 60% of our bodies made up of water, we need to keep drinking water to keep hydrated.
Start your day with a big glass of water and keep a water bottle with you throughout the day to sip on. Most people need 2 litres of water a day but everyone is different. Experiment to see how much water you need. A good way to tell if you are drinking enough water is that you frequently going to the bathroom and that your wee is clear.
2. START A FACE CARE ROUTINE -
Looking after your skin early on will pay off by the time your wedding day comes around. Wedding make-up is fantastic and can hide blemishes easily but if you look after your skin, and your skin is clear and with minimal pimples and blemishes, you will glow as you walk down the aisle.
If you aren't sure about what products (cleansers and moisturisers) are best for your skin type, book in for a facial with an accredited beauty therapist and ask them to tell you what your skin type is and what products they recommend. By incorporating daily cleansing/toning/moisturising and weekly masks into your routine, you will guarantee your face looks fabulous on your big day.
3. EAT MORE VEGETABLES (AND FRUIT)
My third recommendation is to eat more vegetables. Find ways to incorporate vegetables into every meal and snack. Fruit is good too, but think of eating fruit after you have had a good dose of vegetables. You can easily incorporate vegetables throughout your day, without even noticing it.
Drink a green smoothie; add spinach or kale to your morning scrambled eggs; grate carrot in your porridge to make a carrot cake porridge; have a salad or soup for lunch; snack on carrot, cucumber and capsicum sticks for afternoon tea; have roast vegetables or a vegetable stir-fry for dinner.
At every meal, fill up at least half your plate with vegetables and eat your vegetables first. Vegetables are packed with fibre. Fibre makes us feel full and satisfied, not to mention all the amazing vitamins that are in vegetables. When our body is receiving all the nutrients it needs we tend to have less cravings which is good if you want to lose weight. I guess our parents were right when they said we had to eat all our vegetables at dinner time.
By incorporating these simple recommendations into your daily routine when you get engaged you can guarantee you will look and feel your best at your wedding!
Remember, it's never to late to start preparing for your wedding. The best day to start is today!!
