What is a Health Coach?

The most common question I get asked is… What is a Health Coach and what do you do?

Let’s start with what I am not so there is no confusion. As a Health Coach I am not a Nutritionist and I am not a Dietician. I am not a Doctor nor am I a Naturopath.

As a Health Coach, I listen. I listen to what you are saying, and sometimes to what you are not saying. I listen without judgement. I listen to your goals and support you to take action to achieve your goals. I keep you accountable to do what you say you are going to do. There is no such thing as failure if you don’t try! I educate you to look at your health by the food you put in your body, the relationships that surround you, the career that inspires you and the exercise that powers you. I inspire you to get in the kitchen and cook food – real food with whole ingredients and as little processed and packaged food as possible. I want you to experiment with easy recipes and simple cooking to see what you enjoy. I want you to find new foods that are fun and flavoursome.

When I create a program for my clients I take into account bio-individuality. This is a new concept for most people I meet. Bio-individuality acknowledges that “one person’s food is another person’s poison”. Have you ever noticed that some people thrive on a Vegan diet, others love the Paleo way of eating (especially in more recent times) and some people like to eat raw food. There are so many diets and almost every week the news reports on a new diet or magic weight loss pill. I have studied more than 100 diets and I don’t endorse any one diet. I help support my clients to drink more water, eat more vegetables, prepare more food at home, crowd out ‘unhealthy foods’, incorporate exercise into their lives, cherish and improve their relationships, find work they love or love the work they do, combat cravings, lose weight and feel great!

I feel so empowered and energized when my clients lose weight, feel more confident, have clear goals, eat nutritious food, sleep well, enjoy their work, and exercise.
